curious how people related to their bodies and sexuality thousands of years ago? and how this translated into ancient pottery?
join us for a special series of pottery classes that will bring archaeology and ancient history closer to you.
through these guided sessions, you will become acquainted with ancient ceramic forms and will reproduce different objects through various techniques (pinch, coil, slab, free hand etc.) every session
özlem is a pottery artisan for about 20 years and she will introduce you to the world of clay
alexandra is a doctor in ancient history and archaeology. she has been participating in various excavation projects for over 15 years and she will acquaint you with the everyday life of ancient people and their ceramics.
you will be provided with all the required materials including clay, tools, and glazes!

for slightly advanced beginners and intermediate; expand on the basic ceramic techniques to build your own pieces each week, (advanced artists will be given additional direction. we won’t be going into details about coil/pinch pot or slab technique-basic knowlegde of these is necessary)
we will then dive into the possibilities of adding texture to clay, through glaze, natural materials, tools and techniques!
you will go home with multiple pieces, learn important techniques, explore creative ways to work with clay and more!
**all materials and firing are included. each session includes 800 g clay**

you are welcome to use our tools, clay and glazes at the studio. you can also benefit from ceramic books and leaflets that we have at the studio. if you have many ideas and if you like to work independently, open studio is perfect for you. in the friendly atmosphere of commonroom, we like to develop our skills together.

*this class is in russian and english
*dima will teach a four part -workshop to learn basic ceramics.
*the first time he conducted this course was in 2020. he came up with it because after one-time workshops, he had the frustrating feeling that he hadn’t taught all he can teach and that he and the students wanted more!
*dima has a calm, creative and experienced teaching style, he has conducted this course several times, and after each course, most of the students continued to sculpt on their own!
*what you will learn
⁃ 4 basic modeling techniques
⁃ 3 basic techniques of decorating with color
⁃ discovering textures
we will consider the main symbols of expression in ceramics: shape, color, texture, and how to coordinate them with each other
you will also…
⁃ work on your own project
⁃ learn a new technique each session and new examples from the history of ceramics
after the course, you will be able to start working independently. at first, at a basic level, but without any fear of doing something wrong.
